Practical information: Instructions for submitting manuscripts for the CD-ROM 2010 ISSA Proceedings 

  1. Submissions to the proceedings should be sent by e-mail as a separate attachment to: issa-fgw@uva.nl, before July 15, 2010.
  1. Submit the manuscript in Microsoft Word format, according to the instructions given here, otherwise the manuscript cannot be included in the Proceedings.
  1. The file name of the attachment should be the first author’s surname.
  1. Use 12 point type-size, Times Roman font only; use single space. No other formatting options should be used, except for TAB and ITALIC. This excludes any other options for structuring, such as CENTRED TYPE, HYPHENATE and RIGHT-JUSTIFY, and for letter design, such as BOLD and UNDERLINE. Do not use page numbers.
  1. The page margins in Microsoft Word should be:

Top and bottom: 2,5 cm / 0.98 inch
Left and right: 3 cm / 1,18 inch

  1. Line spacing should be single.
  1. Make notes by using the option ENDNOTE. Do not use any formatting options in the endnotes. Restrict the number of notes to a minimum.
  1. Do not use notes for citation purposes. Literature should be referred to in the text, as follows: (Toulmin 1958, p. 124). Complete descriptions of the publications referred to are to be presented in a list called References at the end of the text. All source citations must be in the body of the text.
  1. The references should conform to the APA format. See the following examples (book, article in journal, article in book):

    Toulmin, S. E. (1958). The Uses of Argument. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.
    Benoit, W. L. (1989). Attorney argumentation and Supreme Court opinions. Argumentation and Advocacy 26, 22-38.
    Eemeren, F. H. van, & Grootendorst, R. (1993). The history of the argumentum ad hominem since the seventeenth century. In E. C. W. Krabbe, R. J. Dalitz & P. A. Smit (Eds.), Empirical Logic and Public Debate. Essays in Honour of Else M. Barth (pp. 49-68, Ch. 4), Amsterdam/Atlanta: Rodopi.

  2. On the first page of the paper, mention (in this order) the title (and subtitle, if any), the name of the author(s) and the name of the university.
  1. Check grammar, style and spelling throughout the paper; papers which are not in agreement with generally accepted standards for academic papers in English will not be included in the Proceedings.
  1. Papers may be subdivided in titled sections. Please, number these sections, using 1., 2., etc. Leave two lines extra space above and one line below the section heading. At the start of a paragraph indent one tab. Never use the space bar to indent.
  1. Use (1), (2), (3), etc., for numbering examples. Numbered examples should be set apart from the main text, with one blank line above and below them.
  1. Type only one space after any punctuation mark!
  1. Manuscripts may not exceed 6000 words (references not included).
  1. Graphs and illustrations should be inserted in the Word file.
